Edmonton, Ab.

Good frosty day! This reuben comes as winter has re-gripped the city, amidst a fairly confused, but ultimately abbreviated winter. With that said, this reuben, from Pals Sandwiches in Edmonton can knock the cold outta your soul its so good. Tasty marbled meat, with a generous serving of mustard and look at how fat that bread is. Also the Pickle and fries were great!

Pals has it going on. Some good music was being played… including but not limited to some Leon Bridges and a cover cut of Neil Young’s greatest track, Unknown Legend. Also at the perfect volume, not too loud and not too quiet. Kinda allows conversation to flow but fills the gaps between the tables. The original plexiglass.  And sitting across from Jay, the conversation is going to flow. We bounced around topics, at one point getting deep into the nuts and bolts of the most recent University of Alberta Golden Bears volleyball games. Go Bears. But really all these conversations were just a warm up for our upcoming book club conversation. Jay, myself and another friend have been reading a book a month for 6ish years and meeting (typically virtually) to discuss. It is truly a cherished routine. And this month was a particularly fruitful discussion. Now it may have been the subject matter… but I am starting to think it may also have something to do with having a warm up conversation… I’m sure that there is an athletic comparison I could make here to drive the point home.

But then again this isn't a conversation blog now is it…

I suppose I should just acknowledge the obvious. If you want to have a remarkably deep, humorous and enlightening conversation, or several conversations… It would seem you just need to start with a Reuben.

Reuben… the food for thought.
